When the Pentagon moved to extend duty tours of soldiers in Iraq by three months, the word reached the news media before the official announcement. Defense Secretary Robert Gates was unhappy that “some unthoughtless” person leaked the information. Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Richard Cody went even further, sending out a memo that said the disclosure of the “unclassified sensitive information …endangers the lives of our Soldiers.” (4/19/07)
