The Illinois’ 4th District Appellate Court ruled the reason someone wants information in a public record should have no bearing on whether the request is granted. It said a lower court decision upholding the city of Springfield’s refusal to release information sought by an attorney suing the police department “could lead to the absurd result” where information is released to some individuals and not others.
