Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis, said he will ask the Justice Department to open an criminal investigation on whether the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s top lawyer broke the law by destroying DVDs of a teleconference between NASA leadership and employees of the Inspector General’s office. Sensenbrenner said the tape was clearly a public record. The general counsel, Mike Wholley, admitted at a hearing that he had broken and discarded the DVDs, believing at the time they were not public record. (5/28/07)
