Sen. Kyl Admits He Placed Secret Hold on FOIA Reform Bill

Sen. Jon Kyl, R-AZ, admitted he placed the secret hold on the OPEN Government Act and said he will do whatever he can to block the bipartisan bill to reform the Freedom of Information Act. Sen. Kyl acknowledged the hold after the Society of Professional Journalists began checking with the office of every senator. Kyl’s action has kept the bill from a floor vote; it had cleared the Senate Judiciary Committee by voice vote. A companion bill has been approved by the House. (5/31/07)
