Sen. Lugar: Shield Bill Probably Doesn’t Cover Bloggers

U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., co-sponsor of a shield law now being considered by Congress, told the Inter American Press Association that bloggers would “probably not” be considered journalists as the bill is now written but he added, “As to who is a reporter, this will be a subject of debate as this bill goes farther along.” The bill defines a “covered person” in terms of entities that disseminate information and their employees and contractors.
