Democratic Presidential Candidate Sen. Barack Obama pledged a “new era of openness” in government, reversing the Bush Administration’s “policy of secrecy” during a speech in Chicago. He also said he would establish a National Declassification Center, picking up a recommendation from the 1997 Moynihan Commission. His comments were the most extensive so far by any presidential candidate on government openness, Secrecy News noted. (10/3/07)
