U.S. troops detained the news editor and manager of political television programming for Al-Forat TV and his son after a tip led American forces to their house in Baghdad, the Associated Press reports.
Hafidh al-Beshara’s unidentified son, who is accused of being a militia operative and providing intelligence to Shiite extremists, was the target of the raid. A U.S. military spokesman stated that al-Beshara’s detainment was based on his son’s actions and had nothing to do with his work at Al-Forat TV.
The largest Shiite party in the country owns Al-Forat, which was searched after the raid, but nothing was reportedly found.
