Local law enforcement agencies are not exempt from the Tennessee open records law, the state Supreme Court said in overturning a lower court ruling. The Jackson Sun brought suit in 2004 when reporters were denied records of interviews officers had conducted in stopping but not arresting pedestrians and motorists. Police broadly claimed the records were part of an investigatory process. (5/28/07)
