Vermont’s governor and the state legislature are again battling over openness – the other’s of course. Gov. James Douglas is seeking to strip lawmakers of the authority to keep some of their records private. The legislators say he runs a super-secret administration. “He’s a hypocrite,” said one legislator. A spokesman for the governor said the exemption the legislature crafted for itself is “the most far-reaching government secrecy provision Vermont has ever seen.” (2/23/07)
