Vermont’s Supreme Court ruled a reporter cannot refuse to testify in a civil suit about something witnessed at a public meeting. A reporter for the weekly Bradford Journal Opinion had written about a Selectboard meeting at which a road foreman was selected, quoting one member as saying, “we can get a lot more service” from the winning applicant. The plaintiff in the suit claimed age discrimination in not getting the job. (9/11/07)
