Web Site To Provide Free Federal Case Law Database

A non-profit Web site, public.resource.org, will make available online for free all U.S. Supreme Court opinions dating back to the 1700s and all U.S. appeals courts decisions dating back to 1950. Access to information maverick Carl Malamud has challenged federal openness in the past, posting pictures of the Smithsonian’s archives to photo-sharing site Flickr, and placing the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission’s EDGAR database online. The federal case law database is expected to launch this week. (2/23/08)
