New York Times reporter Barry Bearak  was released on bail Monday after being taken into custody last week by Zimbabwe police for covering the country’s election without proper accreditation.

Bearak and a British journalist "were given bail of 300 million Zimbabwean dollars ($7.50) and the Briton was ordered to reside at the British Embassy and the American was ordered to stay at Dandaro Clinic because he fell in the cells and sustained serious injuries, so he needs medical attention," lawyer Harrison Nkomo told Reuters.
