New York Times reporter Barry Bearak was taken into custody by Zimbabwe police on Thursday.

In a statement released late Thursday, Times executive editor Bill Keller said Bearak, who is based in Johannesburg, was being detained for “violation of the journalism laws.”

The identities of the other journalists in custody have not been released.
